This, That and a New Book Club
There’s lots going on so I’m going to use this week’s post to update y’all.
First, for those of you who read my New Year Resolutions Post, one of the things I said I wanted to do was get the rights back to what might be the most personal book I’ve ever written, So Much For My Happy Ending, and self-publish it.
Well, the first part of that is done. I have the rights. Now I have to figure out what to do with it. I definitely want to revamp, repackage and republish it in one format or another. So Much For My Happy Ending is not a roman à clef but it is heavily inspired by personal experiences. It’s important to me and it became important to a lot of other women as well. I want to treat this new iteration with the care and respect it deserves. When I figure out how to do that I’ll definitely let you know here.
Also, many of you have gotten back to me about my Sophie series. And since my last post Sophie has made another Best-Of list, this time for The Root. In other words, my 19 year old book made 2 very different Best-Of lists in the last three weeks…
It feels like the universe is trying to tell me something.
And my readers are definitely telling me something. Therefore the decision has been made. I will write a Sophie holiday novella to be published at the end of this year and then we’ll take it from there. I’m really excited about this and I hope you are too! Right now all I can ask is that the fans of the series share with with others and, if they like it, send them over here or to find me on their social media site of choice (Facebook, Instagram , Mastodon or Threads) so I can alert them of when the new installment is to be released.
Lastly, as a reader, I have recently found myself without a book group. I love the women who were in my last group but none of us agreed on what books we wanted to read. So I’ve decided switch the Kyra Davis Fans Facebook group to a Kyra Davis Bookclub Facebook group. I’m going to suggest a couple of titles every six weeks for us to read, I’ll let the members of the group vote on it (of which I hope you’ll be one!) and then we’ll come back and diss about it at the end of the 6 week interval. I’ll recommend mysteries and fun, smart women’s fiction. Books I specifically think the readers who like my work will also enjoy. This time I’m going to ask group members to choose between The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dalila Harris (I still haven’t read that one!) and Fake Like Me by Barbara Bourland
Keep in mind, if you don’t like the book choice one month, skip it and come back for the next one. And if there’s a book you desperately want to read with others, join the group and suggested it. I want to lift up my fellow authors’ work, build a community of readers and just have fun.
So what do you say? Will you join me in a little fun?
